Almost perfect
|
Im not sure if I ever mentioned how perfect my little house is. I really do love the charm, the location and of course that I dont have to share it with anyone but me. Back in March when I was taking a little break from writing, I also spent some time sprucing up my little dwelling. I am an HGTV and TLC channel fanatic so I watched decorating programs religiously, bought myself a little do it yourself decorating book that was on clearance and I took a week off of work to paint and decorate my house. I focused just on the dining room and living room since that is were most of my time is spent. I have to admit the end result was not what I imaginedbut much, much better. My little cottage is such a happy little place and truly reflects my personality. I really do adore it. There is however one major gripe I have about my happy little hut. The one thing that keeps this place from being perfect. I have no central heat and air! Since I have never lived without such amenities, I never realized what a huge affect they would have on my life. I have a floor heater that is in the front part of the house that heats up nicely but the warmth never seems to make it to my room (which happens to be down a very long hallway nicknamed the Green mile). The window AC is also situated in the front part of the house and once again, the coolness can only be felt in that part of the house. When you factor in the location of these appliances along with the charm of this 1930s cottage that includes a flat roof (no insulation) and old windows (not dual pane) you can imagine my frustration during the summer and winter months. I made it through the first winter without freezing to death. Luckily Sac has fairly mild winters and I had a heater that kept my room nice and toasty at night (and my electric bill sky high). I knew that once I made it through the winter, the summer would be a breeze, after all, I am a native Cali girl and I much prefer and tolerate the heat. Although, I have always tolerated the heat, it was always done with an AC. My poor little house just is not strong enough to take on the ruthless Sacramento summer sun. I am dreading this upcoming weekend with the prediction of 3-4 days of 100+ days and nights that are just as warm. Normally I get my relief during the evening hours when the lovely delta breeze comes through and cools things off. Im not so sure I will be so lucky this weekend. Lately the only thing that has been my saving grace is the shower in my little NY style bathroom and Mo. He has opened up his townhouse with central AC to me and I have been lapping up the coolness and his company. Luckily we have been getting along like two peas in a pod and spending an obscene amount of time together. There is still a little hesitation on my part but I am working through my doubts and just trying to have a good time with him. Only one week left before I venture off to my new position. In the meantime, I have been doing a whole lotta nothing. Im sure next week will be crunch time as I get organized and wrap things up before making my departure. |
