here today, gone tomorrow

I had a really good entry planned for today. I was gonna talk about my fun filled, exhausting weekend.but it no longer seems important. When I got home today my Mom was on the phone with one of my aunts. I knew something was wrong from the urgentness in her voice. Even though she was on the phone, I asked what was wrong cause I could tell it was bad news. Then she tells me that my uncle Charles oldest daughter LaTonya was stabbed to death by her boyfriend. I didnt know LaTonya that well, I had met her a few times but she lived with her mother who my uncle was never married too. So even though LaTonya is my cousin, I really did not know her all that well. Although she has attended family functions in the past and she lived with my uncle and his family for a while a few years ago. So far all we know is that LaTonya had moved from the bay area to Seattle with her oldest daughters father. Her and the boyfriend bought house together there but had been having problems. LaTonya was planning on moving back to the bay area because the boyfriend had kicked her out the house. Well Saturday sometime they got into a argument over a $18.00 dollar bill. And the next thing we know the boyfriend had stabbed her to death. Obviously there are some gaps in the story, but regardless of what happened, it was not worth LaTonya losing her life. She was only 28 years old. Now she is gone and the boyfriend will likely spend the rest of his life in prison and her 4 kids will be forced to live without their mom. It just doesnt seem fair. I know people say this all the time when something tragic like this happens, but it really hits homes when you know somebody personally who loses their life too soon. This event has me realizing once again that life really can be but a breath away.and that you should live each day as if it is your last. |
