Awww....how I love Fridays!!
|
Im in a totally good mood today. Of course its Friday, and payday, but an added bonus is my BB (ya know my car) is OK! She has a small vacuum leak (whatever that means) and the part to fix it is only going to cost a couple a dollars to get. So my mechanic (he is not really a mechanic but Ries little brother) is going to fix it for me. And since he works at a car parts store, he even gets a discount on the part. As you can imagine I am floating on cloud 9. I just knew I was going to have to pay a shit load of money that I dont have to get my car fixed. Im so happy to be driving BB again. I have been driving my Moms Camry. Even though it drives good (considering its 10 years old) its just doesnt have the same look that BB has. LOL...thas funny cause BB is a 97 Hyundai Elantra. Not the most classy car on the streets, but she is still cute, despite all the scratches that my mom has in inflicted upon her from constantly opening her driver side door and hitting BB when parked in the garage. If you look on my passenger side, someone might think BB was depressed or suicidal from what looks like a bunch of small cuts down her body. BB just needs a good paint job and to be detailed and she will be back in good shape. I was on the Princeton Review site this morning looking at how some of the colleges have been ranked. I got a HUGE kick out of seeing Tuskegee University (where I went to undergrad) ranked as #6 in Quality of Life. I only have one thing to say bout that..HA! TU is a small ass school in an even smaller rural town (note: town, not city!). If TU was to up and move to another city, the town of Tuskegee, AL. may not even exist anymore. There were 4 gas stations, 3 grocery stores, a CVS, a McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys (that was eventual closed down), Subway, KFC/Taco Bell, and a couple hole in the wall restaurants one of which was called the Chicken Coop (which despite its name had some pretty good food) in the whole town. Oh and dont forget the 2 beauty supply stores and one nail shop that were run by Asians in a town that was 95% black. Aint that some shit...that in an all black town, Asians can come in and sell our own products back to us! If your curious, here are some more demographics on Tuskegee I am still trying to figure out what type of quality of life they were talking about when they ranked Tuskegee as #6. The food that was in the cafeteria was disgusting, you know how most freshman pick up 10-15 pounds their first year away from home?? Not me, I lost 10 pounds from not eating. Thats how bad the food was. There was no public Transportation in the city, so getting around was hard as hell unless you happen to meet someone with a car. The closest Wal-Mart was almost 30 miles away in another city. Going to Wal-Mart was a special treat for us. Get us in a Wal-Mart and we would run crazy like a bunch of wild dogs. We would spend hours in the store knowing there was no telling when we would get another special treat like this. The dorm rooms at TU were small and not the cleanness places. The classrooms were even worse. In many of the classrooms paint was peeling of the walls in large chunks. The roofs leaked when it rained (which in the south was usually a few times a week). Most of the classrooms had no air conditioner, which in the fall, spring and summer months made it almost unbearable to sit in a class for an hour. The winter time was no better since the heaters never worked. The dorms were infested with roaches and all kids of other bugs that roam freely in the rural south. Based on the size of the roaches, Im convinced that they eat better than the students on campus. And dont think that spraying some roach spray on these suckers was going to get rid of them. Roaches on Tuskegees campus inhaled roach spray like it was marijuana. I really think they just got a buzz from the spray then they keep on moving like nothing happened. The mosquitos in Tuskegee were outrageous too. I remember my first week in Skegee, I woke up one morning and my legs were full of knots. I thought a spider or something had crawled into bed with me and just had a free for all on my legs. After going to the student health center cause I was scared I had been attacked by a venomous spider, I was told that they were just mosquito bites. I told the women "uh huh..check again cause mosquitoes dont leave marks like this!" The nurse just laughed at me and said "baby, where you frum" in her southern drawl. When I told her I was from California she fell out laughing and even called the other nurse in and shared my story. Im sitting there looking at the women trying to figure out what the hell was so funny. The nurse just said my body was not used to the mosquitos in the south and the bite marks will go down in a couple of days. It didnt make much sense to me and I called my mom that night crying telling her to come get me out of this hell hole before I got eaten alive. I say all this not to discourage people from the black college experience. Even though Tuskegee had its pitfalls, I loved my "Tuskegee Experience". I met some great people and have a ton of wild memories. If I had to do it over again, I would in a heartbeat, despite the huge roaches. Oh did you see the MTV video awards. Of course the talk of the town was the kissing scene with Madonna and Brittany Spears. I have to admit, it shocked me too and I gasped when I saw it. I didnt care for the focus on the Lesbian Lover theme. Its not that I have a problem with lesbians or anything..hell I love lesbians. Not cause I like women, but because I figure the more lesbians there are in the world, means more men that are available for me! Its the bi-sexuals that I have a problem with...they are just plain ol greedy...they want your man and your bestfiend! But anyways, every time Madonna goes and does something for shock, it becomes popular. I dont know if I like the idea of Lesbianism being the new "in" thing. Imagine all the little girls that look up to Brittany and Christina. Next thing you know we gonna have a bunch of little girls running around town trying to French kiss each other..I can just see the media headlines now. Hey, did ya notice, I wrote everyday this week. Yay me! |
